Museums and Eucation

Museums (a term used in its broadest sense to include all centres of the muses - art galleries, theatres, libraries, museums, archaeological and historical sites, and so on) are essential to the good education of our children. All such places should, either individually or as groups, have full-time and properly qualified education officers. All teacher training in Scotland should incorporate making proper use of such sites in their curricula. All schools should be encouraged to make full use of museums at all levels of education.

Why the contribution is important

Education can become too focussed on the written word as a medium. Not only do frequent visits to museums encourage participation in the arts, they also show that learning and expression can be accomplished in many ways and forms.
