Digital Economy and Digital Skills

The digital economy and digital skills are extremely important fot the present anf future growth of the Scottish economy.

The Government, in association with digital equipment / software manufacturers, must set up a scheme to provide capacity, skills and funding in which the early desigh / researcg for projects can be developed, manufactured and tested in Scotland.

Too many digital research from University spin-out organisations are manufactured outwith Scotland.  ( For example; the "lightWiFi" for high capacity mobile telephone transmission system from Edinburgh University.)

As important to the above scheme are the issues of 'Patents' and 'Intellectual Property Rights' advice.   The Scottish Government must provide confidential advice and guidance at an early stage in digital equipment / software research.  This approach will ensure Patents and intellectual rights are supported and are applied for at the appropriate stages in the research process.

Why the contribution is important

To ensure rapid and sustainable growth in the Digital economy.

I would have thought this type of advice was already available through Scottish Enterprise, however I would have thought that, if not, this was an ideal area for academia to share knowledge and experience. Any activities that help to promote business opportunities in Scotland are to be supported.
