Low self worth

After giving up my job to look after my husband who had a stroke, I was shocked to discover how little carers allowance was/ is. I now work harder, longer hours than I ever did when I worked as a nurse/support worker. Haven't had a day off for 16 months let alone a holiday. So why am I worth so little to the government? I know that I am invaluable to my husband but I feel like a very undervalued member of society!

Why the contribution is important

Because as an unpaid carer life is tough enough!!!!!

Thank you for your comment. It is our aspiration to do more to support carers through the social security powers that will be coming to Scotland. Do people have any views on how we can promote self worth, and more effectively support carers through the powers that will be coming to the Scottish Parliament?

Absolutely all the unpaid carers that love their cared for person has given up their life and yet we are awarded this pittance something needs to change.
