Better financial support across all sectors

The replacement financial support package is not good enough. It will not stop redundancies and in some sectors they have not even opened to generate income. We cannot be expected to follow restrictions when people’s financial impacts are not being considered. The general public cannot control this therefore why should they be disadvantaged financially? The government need to support so no one looses out.

Why the contribution is important

The financial impact of this will kill more than the virus. This must now get prioritised.

A Universal Basic Income equivalent to at least a Living Wage would be a sensible step to bringing survivability within everyone's reach. A way to finance this would be to introduce 100% taxation on all off-shore accounts and all income above a level to be agreed and set after debate.

So many people have been excluded from financial support. Especially the small self-employed businesses. The SEISS grant is only available if their self-employed income is more than 50% of their total income. Many don't have premises so the rates help wasn't relevant. Many take a part time job, have cashed in a pension or receive a work pension too - none of this 'other income' affected whether someone got furlough payments. People have been forced to use up their savings, get in to debt, close their businesses and even sell their homes. HMRC have all the info there is no excuse for not helping these people.

Further lockdowns that affect household visiting and holiday bookings is going to make it worse. So many are going to end up unemployed and claiming benefits it would be better to help them the way most employed people have been helped now.
