Empower the outdoors

Set up good systems for outdoor leisure. We have huge resources in our outdoors but more refining of how to use with facilities such as toilets & outdoor cafes/bars with outdoor heaters.

Enable people with less money & resources to use the outdoors by facilitating inexpensive transport.
Special outings for each category of people eg schoolchildren, students, elderly, single parent families, etc
Possible outdoor clothing grants or swap & sell opportunities.

The logic being that the more space we have the less likely we are to spread coronavirus.

(This also applies to buildings eg new build hospitals, care homes & schools should have a larger footprint where possible)

Why the contribution is important

Just my observation that so many have enjoyed outdoors during the pandemic but feel more should have the chance to do the same .I've noticed less people are doing their daily walks but on the other hand many on bikes. It was great to see families walking & cycling together.

It would also enhance mental & physical health and thereby increase productivity at work.

It is necessary to provide car parking spaces for people wanting to walk in popular rural areas , especially the Munros. The's been a lot of media coverage about illegal parking, but people will continue to want to take healthy walks in the countryside, so increased parking spaces must be provided.

We need to promote outdoor, appropriately spaced, meeting, socialising activity and learning, which also requires some "joined up" thinking on the part of local authorities. It is contradictory to promote outdoor exercise then close toilets and parking areas, instead these should be fully opened, necessary adaptations made and additional provision, such as well ventilated toilet facilities (composting toilets?) . Well-ventilated public transport, discounted or even free, might help reduce the need for private motor transport , at least to popular areas (replace glass windows on buses with grilles) . Creating proper safe space and coherent routes for walking and cycling throughout Scotland, starting with temporary installations but with the intention to make permanent improvements, will also help enable more people to move around actively and in the fresh air, with benefits beyond this pandemic.
