Enabling solo singers at private events.

Currently the live music industry is crippled by blanket restrictions that don’t take account for certain circumstances. A huge part of this problem is the banning of live singing at weddings and other private events. I feel it’s important that this be reassessed, taking into account the following key point:

A professional singer is perfectly capable of performing WITH A MASK ON. In the context of wedding ceremonies and receptions, this does not encourage others to sing along, as it’s a solo performance by a professional. The mask does not alter the quality of the performance, and prevents any possible spread of disease.

This MUST be taken seriously and the rules adjusted accordingly if musicians are to stand a chance of remaining “viable” over the next 12 months.

There is no reason to disallow singing in the context of weddings and events when it is perfectly possible to sing while wearing a mask and be distanced from the audience.

Why the contribution is important

The live music industry is on its knees. Making this reasonable and obvious adjustment to the rules will allow thousands of musicians to resume earning a living over the coming months. This change will not endanger an audience as long as the singer wears a mask. It’s a small change, and very easy to understand. Please take this seriously, it’s our life.

This makes sense and would make such a difference to musicians who have been unable to work for so long.

It would also allow a move to normality for wedding receptions which would be welcomed by couples and the industry as we learn to live with Covid
