Explain airborne transmission

Please can you do more to explain, clearly, about airborne transmission. This will help people understand WHY they are being asked to behave in a certain way. More people would comply if you did that.

Also, please require masks at ALL TIMES outside the home. This will clear up confusion over when they should be worn, and go a long way to reduce airborne transmission.

Make it clear that there is NO safe distance indoors. Stop emphasising 2 metres. People think this keeps them safe, when it does no such thing,

Finally please emphasise that masks MUST COVER THE NOSE!

Why the contribution is important

See above.

People are not complying with the rules because the majority do not understand the reasons they are being asked to do certain things. If you explain airborne transmission clearly and repeatedly you would see much more compliance.

    I completely agree with this.

I'd add that in addressing these points the public needs to clearly and consistently be reminded that its not "wear a mask OR keep 2m distance" via impactful media campaigns.

Lately whenever I go into a shop people seem to think it's perfectly fine to walk so close to you that they brush your shoulder just because they're wearing a mask, when there's plenty of space for them to be able to keep their distance if they wanted to. It's beyond annoying.

The evidence for facemasks in a community setting is very weak and may even make things worse due to poor mask hygiene. This is acknowledged in the UK Government's recent SAGE paper https://assets.publishing.s[…]g-face-coverings-170920.pdf

Masks everywhere outside the home is a terrible idea - not being able to get proper fresh air would have serious effects on mental health, indeed it would push some people over the edge.
