GP Surgeries

Use GP surgeries to man local 111 calls in regards to covid, Put GPs back to local on call family doctor type rotas, The GPs have got off lightly with this pandemic, and have been paid for very little work, Time to stop letting them dictating there working conditions and earn them, Local doctors would help to give better assurance to locals, families of all ages., and alert to local agencies, and other areas locally for quicker access to service, like Mental health, counselling, physio , child health etc

Why the contribution is important

It is important to help rebuild community, build a better community spirit and awareness, which would also help to reduce footfall with folks travelling elsewhere for services which are available locally, Build faith into the health service professionals, local education and trust.

I disagree that GPs have got off lightly (for one thing, a number of them died earlier in the pandemic after seeing Covid patients) or that they aren't working enough. I do think they should have a much bigger role in the response to Covid though. I believe outsourcing dealing with patients with mild Covid to NHS 111 is one of the reasons the UK had such a high death rate. Instead, we should make sure that everyone who tests positive gets regular follow-up to make sure they aren't deteriorating. We could look at the model adopted in parts of Germany, for instance, where people got telephone follow-up from their GP and medical students (mostly at pretty low risk from Covid) were tasked with visiting people at home and checking their oxygen saturations to see whether they needed to be in hospital. GPs could also have a more central role in Test & Protect and in making sure local communities engage with it

could not agree more. We have this huge network and yet it is basically shut off from the public. why were the GP car parks not turned in to walk in test centres?
Why can't GP's do tests before you ask for an appointment at their base? it's all too inefficient.

GP’s should be seeing patients as required. They should be following the same rules as hospital staff. With PPE and social distancing for waiting rooms. They should not be punting irrelevant treatments to the ED that are not Emergencies, such as non obvious injuries requiring X-ray. X-rays can be booked by the GPS themselves upon examination. Some are playing games and shirking their responsibilities, the majority are doing a fantastic job

I think the criticality of GP and wider community services to the health and wellbeing of the population cannot be underestimated. I am fortunate not to have needed their input since March but have family and friends who have and have very mixed picture of response.
One family member has had an excellent telephone and face to face contact with GP , while numerous other friends have been unable to see a GP and I have heard of elderly people with existing health conditions wait 3 weeks for a telephone appointment.
Many community services such as podiatry , physio, dietetics , etc are working on a very limited basis Triaging by phone but with few people getting hands on care. I do not understand this as health environments are well controlled , safe systems should be in place and staff are already trained in and practice infection control. There is no an absence of any proactive care - now totally reactive and rationed which is absolutely wrong.
There is a daily message that the NHS is open for business - But it is not open to many people and their health and wellbeing is adversely affected with no clear route back. This is pushing those who can to pay private practitioners many of whom also work in the NHS.
The government need to take firm control of this and get all clinical NHS staff back seeing patients with safe procedures in place as this is their job. The current position is not sustainable.
