Hair salon measures

Hair salons and beauty would wear type 2 masks and visors and not just face coverings. This is very close contact service with sometimes over 10 customers a day. Also a limit of staff in the salon and customers as it is very very busy at times and cleaning is being forgotten. The shop floor does not feel same.

Why the contribution is important

To protect employees their families and customers.

My hair salon does only admit one client at a time and my hairdresser does wear a visor and a mask. He is also carrying out all hair washing, colouring and cutting himself so I feel safe whenever I visit. Temperature is taken on entry, hand sanitizers in place and the door is kept locked. All salons should adopt these stringent procedures.

Most salons have adopted everything mentioned above as that was what was in the guidelines allowing them to open and was revised to include masks and visors.

Many salons have spent thousands of pounds on elevating already high standards of hygiene to reflect the risk the virus presents.

Where all of this falls down and betrays those who are doing the right thing is the lack of scrutiny of those, and there are some, who are not doing things as per the guidelines.

To be fair most environmental health departments aren't actually sure of the rules and neighbouring councils apply their interpretation differently so some rule breakers escape adequate oversight.

The public have a part to play in this as well, why would you accept a service which you can clearly see is not in compliance with all the rules? Speak to the salon and demand a safe service. Refuse the service if you don't feel comfortable and if so minded complain to the local environmental health department.

You are only required to wear masks and visors in England only.
Yes guidelines have been published but these are all guidelines only not madatory.
There have been so many clusters in salons already. Due to guidelines being so vague salons are getting away with doing what they want.
