Life is for living

We need to learn to live with this virus it is not going away anywhere most people will not take a rushed vaccine as the long term effects are not know.

All locking down does is buy you some time and doesn’t change the trajectory which is what happened in the spring. We pushed everything on to the winter... there will be an exponential growth of suicide; late stage cancer diagnosis; heart issues these were and are entirely preventable.

We have holiday accommodation which we have fully booked in October we go above and beyond our cleaning protocols. We no longer have payment break options. We no longer have cancellation cover for infectious diseases so who covers the last income and revenue? We have no staff to be able to furlough them and save money

When did we ever live without risk?

We're not a nation with a history of hiding and wishing, we're an industrious nation of productive, brilliant, and kind people.

The Scottish people can be trusted to make our own individual decisions about risk while respecting the preferences of those around us. We can and have come up with brilliant solutions to health problems. The inventor of vaccines Edward Jenner was a Scottish alumnus!

Do we really want to live another year or two years, penned like sheep while we watch everything around us go to ruin?

100% agree - we need to snap out of this Covid tunnel-vision now. We can't keep jumping in and out of lockdown or live with arbitrary restrictions that make no difference. Look at Sweden for inspiration.

A million percent! We can’t hide under the table hoping this will go away - everything we have tried so far has not defeated coronavirus so let’s live with it. Protect the people at risk & get the economy moving

Agree with this completely. You can't beat a pandemic by lockdowns.

Totally agree , look at Sweden. Let us live our life’s .
Suicide rate is going to keep going up at this rate

The initial lockdown, although still a poor strategy, can be understood. But only for a few weeks until the NHS caught up. Since then, we have never really got out of lockdown and the suppression strategy the government is following is now showing to do more harm than good. It is not a viable option as a longer term strategy. It will destroy the economy (and is already costing people's lives, livelihoods, mental health etc) which in itself will impact on life outcomes and opportunities for generations to come, on poverty and impact great suffering... not to mention that without a robust economic setting, the NHS will crumble, causing further health damage. It is not the compassionate policy it claims to be, in fact it is by far more inhumane than a targeted protection and allowing the rest to live as normal as possible with simple hygiene recommendations and social distancing measures.

Even with a successful vaccine looking at a year to become fully effective. We need to learn how to live with this

As a Scandinavian, comparisons with Sweden are beginning to seriously irritate me. Sweden has had about 10x the cases and excess deaths of neighbouring countries (which are what you should compare Sweden with as they are culturally quite different from places like the UK, much lower population density, much higher proportion of people living alone etc). There have been health & social care workers speaking out about their horror at the strategy to effectively sacrifice the elderly so other people could go out. They also now have a lot of young people living with long-term disability from Covid and are having to implement more restrictions to keep things under control. On the other hand, the other Scandinavian countries, which took Covid seriously and implemented strict restrictions early on have been able to more or less return to normal life (I have friends and family who have been getting married, socialising pretty much as normal etc) while cases have stayed low. They haven't had more economic damage than Sweden either. Sweden may look good by UK standards (pretty much worst of both worlds as delayed action led to a really bad first wave and meant restrictions had to be in place longer) but it's certainly not something to aspire to. There's also no reason to think that adopting Swedish-style measures in the UK would lead to the same outcomes - it could be much worse (see above about high compliance with voluntary measures, much fewer people in overcrowded accommodation etc). So if you look at lessons from Scandinavia as a whole, it seems like what you actually need is early action, taking the situation seriously and strict border control. And with that in place you can have a reasonably normal life.

Trust the people? You have to be kidding, everyday I see the people, no social distancing, sneezing in their hands then touching items, no facemasks, having house party's, and the vulnerable have to suffer and medical staff have to risk their life's to save these people who can't follow some simple rules, we all want freedom but not at the risk of others it's definitely a me me me society we live in.

100% agree with this comment. We keep being told 'just a little bit longer' how much longer? Weeks? Months? Years? I don't mind living with restrictions in the short term, protecting the health service and staying safe. But this virus may be around for years, so we will have to find a way to adapt and get on with things. Of course people should come before profits but we all need to make a living. Since when did the economy become such a dirty word? The economy IS peolpe. As someone who just retrained in the arts, has lost hours at work, has a husband who has just been made redundant after 23 years service, and an elderly mother with cancer, it has become clear that life has to go on, in what ever manner it can, and can not be put on hold indefinitely
