Lift the limit on wedding guest numbers
We believe weddings should be allowed to go ahead with larger numbers than 20. It doesn't make any sense that we can go to a restaurant or bar and sit near complete strangers but we are not allowed to have close friends and families in the very same venue for a private wedding.
Couples would know exactly who had attended the wedding so there would be an accurate list for track and trace purposes, and in a closed venue such as a hotel or a wedding venue like a barn it would be possible to implement social distancing if required (and if not needed by then, the original seating and table plans could be reinstated).
Guests could decide if they wish to attend or not and hand sanitiser etc could be made available, even a temperature check if required. Brides would be happy to make modifications if it means they can go ahead.
We need to learn to live with Covid-19 as it will not be eradicated any time soon.

Why the contribution is important
Like many others I am due to get married in May 2021 and the uncertainty is just awful. We have not been able to send out save the date cards so friends and family can make travel arrangements and we have arranged a wedding for 120 plus 80 guests but don't know if we will be able to go ahead.
While we all appreciate that this is a fast-moving situation there is no guidance in place other than the current 20 guests, making any kind of forward planning absolutely impossible. Suppliers are in an impossible position with no certainty of bookings and our caterer has already gone out of business.
The wedding industry needs to have some clarity and a common sense approach for the longer term. Not knowing whether we can go ahead has sucked every bit of joy out of planning our day.

It is completely mind boggling that I could go to a restaurant and be surround by 40/50 people that I don’t know, yet I can only inite 18 others to my wedding where it is in a much more controlled environment (given the exact same restrictions apply)!
