Return to normal with caution.

I work as a Scientist doing testing for Covid vaccine samples as well as other medicines. I have worked constantly since the begginging of lockdown. I feel it is time to allow the virus to move through the population and allow everyone to get on with their lives. Gaining herd immunity will benefit everyone without this continual cycle of lockdowns and restrictions. If we do a mini lockdown again we will end up back at square one in a couple of months. If we keep to social distancing and advise sick people to immediately isolate and stop testing we will get over it quicker. I don't understand the reporting of positive tests rather than actual deaths? it's nonsense. Years ago we kept wards and hospitals specifically for infectious diseases and isolated the sick- this should should be the case now. Yes people will get sick but hopefully the majority of the population will recover and have minor symptoms.

Why the contribution is important

If we want the economy and the country to recover we have to act sooner rather than later. We were slow to respond initially. Allowing planes and travel to continue at the beginning but restricting local movement was nonsensical. We need to move on for everyone's mental health and well-being.

I agree. I also read a report in the Guardian stated that 92% of people who had died of Covid in the UK had underlying health conditions.
We understand much more about this virus yet seem to be getting fed a diet of fear from the Scottish Government.
Yes, the initial lock down in March protected the NHS but further lockdowns and limitations are only going to cause a drop in infections for a limited time. Meanwhile the economy is tanking, livelihoods are being lost and mental health issues are rising perhaps to unprecedented levels.
The chances of a vaccine being available any time soon is slim. Huge numbers of people especially in the US have said they won't have it. Covid will always be with us. We can't put our lives on hold indefinitely.
