Short ban on all alcohol sales

As people's guard is lower when consuming alcohol, and house parties are known to contribute to rapid spread of the virus, it would be good if it was not possible to purchase or order it. This would also improve the health of the nation. It would be short term, perhaps with Christmas as the goal for reinstatement. Hopefully some compensation provided for the industry for this short period of time. Minimal warning to avoid stock piling. Combine with limiting indoor gatherings to two households. This at least allows people to see their family. Perhaps encourage visits to be limited to one hour. Thsnk you.

Why the contribution is important

To avoid alcohol induced spread of the virus and to improve physical and mental health.

Don’t agree. We should not be subjected to such a draconian measure. The majority of the country consume alcohol responsibly. This would cause even more angst at an already stressful time. Would not stop those who are flouting the rules to carry on ignoring them.

Continue to keep places of worship closed as well? Or is it only people who consume alcohol that spread covid?

No. I don’t even drink, but this is a stupid idea. It will do nothing but create a black market, increase theft and totally won’t work. I’d even brew my own to make some doe.

Yeah close the pubs. But stopping the sale of alcohol will not work. It’s like the drug dealers who make a tidy sum with no tax contributions. Getting drugs is easier than a chocolate bar. For starters it’s delivered to ones door, normally within the hour. It will be the same for any alcohol ban

I don't think anyone could argue that alcohol reduces people's inhabitions and they're more likely to break guidelines for keeping safe. Some pubs are also not enforcing laws and guidelines. But it's not fair or proportionate to shut down every pub or restaurant. Majority of pubs and restaurants and making huge efforts and they should be rewarded not punished for those who take risks. Can we not keep all pubs and restaurants open but ban selling of alcohol, both in these establishments and supermarkets. Added bonus is helps with Scotland's alcohol problems and encourages a culture where people realise they can still have a good time with friends without getting drunk.
