Use of stats and language in briefings

The language and selected statistics used in briefing meetings are designed to instil as much fear as possible. This should stop.
When the deaths went down, you started reporting ‘cases’ (meaning positive tests, which are not actual cases) . If you are reporting deaths then put them in the context of how many die from other causes to give some perspective. If you are imposing restrictions then publish all the statistics that you have based the decision making on. This is particularly important as there is currently no parliamentary scrutiny.. Distinguish clearly between deaths OF Covid and deaths WITH Covid.
Finally, stop using the phrase the ‘New Normal’ - what does it mean? Do you believe we are to live like this indefinitely? Is a world where we can not be physically close to people or see the expressions on others faces going to become normal? Is a world where we wash our hands 30 times a day ever going to be ‘normal’? Should it?

Why the contribution is important

Because people are scared and don’t understand the true scale of the problem because it is being presented dishonestly, with a view to instil fear and exert control.

    Exactly. It is for the people, and not for governments, to define what "normal" should be.

    It’s even in their latest evidence paper where they have rounded up by several percentage points the number of cases, deaths, etc.

    I am particularly concerned that they have lost all context when they remove our liberty. Roughly 150 people die in Scotland each and every day, with around 10% of these being flu or pneumonia. It happens every year and always will. Average age at death from Covid 82, average life expectancy 82. Why are we being punished?
