24hr country

Try to get all businesses to adopt shift patterns 6 to 2, 2 to 10, 10 to 6. This would have less people grouped together and if enough businesses do this it could result in increased productivity. No time zone issues for international trade, restaurants and bars could open for 24 hrs, less people in so easier to social distance. I appreciate that not every business could do this but if enough did then people working late shifts could have all the amenities that are afforded anyone. It’s daylight for 6 hours in the winter anyway and lighter for 16 in the summer. A culture shift but potential to increase revenue through increased productivity.

Why the contribution is important

Social distancing would be the norm, economic benefits.

At least you are trying to come up with an idea, not discussing opinions. However I am not sure there
is anything I would go out in the middle of the night for, but would have to have a think. And I think there might be some businesses that could adopt this type of shift pattern.

Interesting. I think for some jobs this could work. As a scientist, I could do experiments 10pm to 6am and then someone else would go in the morning.

Shift work of any sort, any pattern, is bad for peoples' health. Night shift, in particular, is very bad. There are well-researched links with increased rates of heart disease, heart attack, high blood pressure, stroke, stomach ulcer, stomach cancer, bowel cancer, depression and lots more. If we want to improve our national public health we should only allow shift working where it is absolutely necessary - not force more of it. More shift working isn't the answer to a virus that preys on people with heart disease and high blood pressure.
