2nd home

Access to 2nd home is needed, the property is not a luxury I would stay here if I had job opportunities in my role as an essential worker. My wider family also live in the area and I have been unable to visit them.

Why the contribution is important

Essential maintenance of the property is required. Access to the property is important to maintain the house and prevent it and the surrounding garden from falling into disrepair.

    I agree.

Travel in a car to a 2nd home will not spread the virus.

So long as the same constraints apply to 2nd location as the 1st, I can see no reason why risk would be increased.

Also, there is an economic benefit, as 2nd home users will contribute to the survival of rural economies.

I do think there should be some (initial) restrictions... eg. a minimum stay of 2 weeks, and a requirement to notify a local health service of their arrival (for contact tracing purposes).

The lockdown has not gone on long enough for buildings to fall into disrepair. Gardeners can work while socially distancing to solve that issue.

In order to contain the virus we need to reduce travelling as much as possible. People travelling between two homes and then going into shops, meeting family, etc would increase the virus spread.

Incidentally, even if OP was in the area they should not have been visiting. It is clear that allowing movement between homes would encourage people to make contact.

Unless there is a travel restriction of 1 hr max along with Antibody testing and the T.T.I app then NO. There are plenty of Asymptomatic carriers who are capable of causing a rise in the infection rate meaning we'll be back into tighter restrictions again.

If you can afford to own a 2nd property then it's a Luxury...plenty of people can barely afford 1!

I agree. Home owners pay council tax, insurance and utilities. They are entitled to check and maintain their properties.

Overwhelming of the NHS has been avoided and now it should be possible to permit people to move around in private cars. Denying people use of properties or bosts that they own can no longer be justified. We were told that restrictions would only apply for as long as necessary. This no longer seems to be the case.

Round trip to visit second home for inspection and switch off winter heating. No overnight stop

We've been in lockdown for 6 weeks. A property does not deteriorate in that time. If you are concerned about your second home then pay someone local to look after it for you.
