Ability to visit rental properties for maintenance

Allow owners to travel to visit their properties to allow ongoing maintenance

Why the contribution is important

At the start of the lockdown workers left our rental property to travel home to comply with lockdown however we have been unable to visit the properties and inspect in order to agree refund of deposit. We need to be able to visit, inspect and subsequently prepare properties for future rental agreements. This would not involve coming into contact with others. It is also a requirement that empty properties be inspected on a weekly basis to comply with our insurance.

Checking holiday accommodation for safety and maintenance is essential. Many properties will not have been checked for 6 weeks and this is inevitably going to be extended. Allowance needs to be made for essential visits by owners to ensure properties are safe, in good order and compliant with insurance requirements.

Allowing the inspection of empty properties could help with other issues too - for example separated couple could potentially come together in a single household

Really concerned about insurance cover leaving property unchecked for over 30 days in a row.

It is necessary to check on properties and this can be done with no risk.

Totally agree with all comments. In my case I would be travelling weekly to inspect/tidy/clear out my late dad's empty house, without coming into contact with anyone during this time. Must be very low risk.

It is necessary to check whether there has been gale damage from this past winter, especially of properties in exposed situations, on which exterior maintenance can only be conducted with any certainty in the summer months before the weather closes in again for next winter. There are lead times involved to organise tradesmen to do any essential work, and this can't simply be left to wait or the summer will be past. The worry for the property owners is considerable, besides the lockdown leading to insurance requirements being flouted.

second home owners on islands should be allowed back in a first wave once the first travel restrictions are lifted. could produce council tax notice to show police/ferry staff. just the owners not visitors.

No. Containing the virus is currently the priority - it is too early to allow more travel
