Allow access to self catering holiday accommodation

I have a booking for a holiday cottage on one of the Scottish islands. The islands need our business. I cannot see why my family could not safely travel on a CalMac ferry to the island and live in the self catering accommodation for a week. We could stay in the car on the ferry if necessary. We could take all our own food. The chances of taking the virus to the island are minimal but it would start to restore a little normality. Currently there are severe restrictions on ferry travel. Why? This does not make sense. Everything in life has a risk.

Why the contribution is important

Brings an important economic benefit to a remote community with minimal risk.

Utter nonsense why risk spreading the virus to remote locations just because you want a holiday, we all want a holiday but we have to be sensible. What if you have a accident or break down while travelling you will need contact with people then and put pressure on the health and emergency service.

    Ridiculous and dangerous.
Agree with Sorcha2222 how selfish to want a holiday to risk any of the people on our Scottish Islands
Stay in your main home and forget about holidays till the numbers are down and remain down on the virus

I agree with poster. Rural areas rely on tourism. If no foreign tourists this year at least allow travel within Scotland.

You'd be coming to an area with very limited resources. We have 2 self-catering cottages in Torridon on the NC500 route and have absolutely no intention of opening up any time soon. There are no pubs, restaurants, hotels open and local shops are supplying only locals. We have to protect our communities.

I think holidays should not happen until it is safe to do so. On the first weekend of restrictions, the highlands were full of camper vans and caravans headed up north to escape the virus. The camper van Facebook forums were full of people stating they planned to do this. This causes unnecessary spread and is potentially dangerous.

I would have loved nothing better than to book an Airbnb for a few months with my family to keep out the way, but that would have been selfish of me.

I would love a wee holiday but I feel that for now unnecessary travel is dangerous and could bring fresh infections in from tourists.

Once it’s safe again, Scotland will be delighted to welcome visitors :)

My main employment is holiday cottages but I don't agree they should be opened any time soon wee need to know its almost ended before we do that

GREAT IDEA - isolate in a remote holiday home, become sick spread covid in a small rural vulnerable probably ageing community, realise that the nearest ICU is some hours away - phone for help and expect the emergency services to come and save your life.
Please dont be selfish or stupid, stay home and stay away from our rural communities.

Definately not good idea. Don’t think any restrictions should’ve eased. Far too early. Deaths are still rising

Argyll ,for example, has zero ventilators. Mull, the second biggest Island in the inner Hebrides, has 3 hospital beds. You are not allowed to stay in your car by MCA order.
What about the cleaner who has to clean up after you?
Appreciate you are also thinking of owners who may have no income, but not yet.

Certainly, everything in life has a risk, but you can't decide on that risk for other people. Unfortunately it is not possible to stay in the car during ferry crossings on the type of boats we have. And travel comes with necessary interactions - buying fuel, food etc, cleaners, key exchange etc.

I live on a Hebridean island as a student. This is my home, but I'm also essentially stuck here. I haven't seen my family (all on the mainland) for 5 months. Yes, I'd love to see them but only when it is safe to travel outside of our specific regions again.

We have no ventilators here, and anyone who became critically ill would need to be air-lifted to Inverness. It's just too risky to open up to holidaymakers at the moment.
