Allow angling restart

Allow travel to Scotland's rivers, lochs and coastlines and allow angling to restart.

Why the contribution is important

Angling is a significant contributor to the Scottish rural economy. It offers anglers an opportunity to partake in a hobby which contributes to mental well being during this difficult time. Opening up our rivers and lochs again to our anglers will assist those who own and manage them by injecting some much needed cash. Angling is almost exclusively a solitary practice and while groups of friends traditionally will enjoy a day together, they can easily adapt by travelling to these locations separately and keep their social distancing during the day’s activity.

I agree as long as the travel is not excessive or putting additional risk/pressure on our emergency services.

There's a number of good reasons why angling should be an early candidate for consideration including:
        • being a largely solitary sport where self isolation occurs naturally
        • proven benefits for mental health and social well-being
        • a reduction in pressure on other public open spaces
        • evidence that non-contact outdoor activities will not increase infection rates
    • angling appeals to people of all ages and backgrounds and engages able-bodied and disabled participants alike
        • the majority of the population live close to a waterway minimising the need for significant travel.
