Construction spans lots of projects. Building a one off house doesn’t require to be flooded with trades people. I can see constrained sites having to do more where there are access pinch points.

Construction is a significant employer and contributes massively to UK GDP. It ought to be one of the first sectors to get moving.

Working in other key industries, several strategies have been employed. Social distancing in the work place, split shifts, working from home, wearing masks or face shields etc. They could easily be applied to the construction industry. Although this wouldn't be back to normal with full production, however would be a positive step in the right direction, while keeping in place safety measures to reduce the spread of COVID19

The country has a housing crisis.

I would totally support construction which works in an outdoor environment e.g. groundworkers, to be phased in first with appropriate risk assessments and PPE in place

My wife and I are Scots (in our 60s) living in Hampshire. We have retired and planned to come back to Scotland. We have bought a a new home from DWH and it was going to be ready in June it just needs paint and interior doors. It is in East Calder and we cannot figure out why boulders cannot be allowed to return to work. The Scottish Government are missing out on the revenue. The builder has a very safe plan to protect employees and are resuming work in England on Monday 11 May
We are in a rented property surrounded by boxes hoping work can resume soon...

The construction and house building industry is one of the key industries in the country and if it is reopened with safe working practices then it will help kick start the economy. This is generally an outdoor activity and is must safer than any indoor activity

The construction industry has continued operating in England & Wales, it adopted new safety measures and there have no adverse reports from any construction sites demonstrating that the CLC's site operating procedures are effective. Most construction operatives work outdoors or are totally isolated safely in the cab of an excavator etc., those working indoors can easily re-organise work tasks to say 1 person per small room and 2 people in bigger rooms. It is also a quick economic fix, as instead of the Taxpayer paying furlough to thousands of construction workers, these workers will be back earning money and paying taxes. Please allow the construction industry to get back to work starting w/c 18 May.

Construction should be allow to go back, with protection in place. Big sites have able space such as the building of schools and hospitals which are needed. Builders normally were PPE at work, gloves, specs giving them mask should not be an issue.

A relatively simple area to open safely, and crucial to kick start the economy

Construction should be allowed to resume in a safe manner. It does not make sense that it is safe in England for construction to return to work but not in Scotland. New House construction will allow the economy to be kick started

Construction in Scotland should resume immediately. The majority of work is carried out in the open air, and social distancing measures can be easily implemented. Procedures have already been drawn up to ensure that this can take place. It is vital to get the economy moving again as soon as possible, and construction is the obvious first step.

I’m in the middle of a renovation project - one person household and stranded amidst domestic chaos. Talking to my plumber, joiner etc, tradespeople are perfectly willing and able to do more on small/safe projects - but cannot get basics such as plasterboard, wood etc .
SUPPLIES seem to be the limiting factor, rather than safety and social distancing on domestic projects in particular.
Please look at opening up supply chains for building supplies so these vulnerable small trades businesses - and their clients - can get in with life.
If the public can go to hardware stores (considered ‘essential’ retail?) etc, why not professional tradespeople to wholesale builders’ merchants?

Absolutely no reason for construction not to resume in general. It is an essential industry, key to the economy and could be back in action now. I know that some had expected to be working from tomorrow and so are absolutely ready to go with all PPE and signage in place. Get them back to work. Save the economy.
