Allow self employed people who can do social distancing return to work

Most self employed people work alone so are low risk, especially those who work outdoors.

Why the contribution is important

There’s so many self employed people who are struggling to keep their business running and are concerned that they will have to shut up shop,.
Allowing them to return to work so long as they can practice social distancing and hand washing etc would help the economy and their mental health.

Agree totally, there are quite a few occupations that could easily work safely adhering to social distancing... window cleaners, gardeners, recycle centers, are just a few but agree lots more could go back to work IF they choose to work and can follow the guidelines and should be allowed to BUT must be wearing a cloth mask ( not a medical mask for the NHS).

With sudden unemployment it is a contributes factor to mental health. Introducing sole working would ease not only self employed persons back to work but employees who work on there own. Which is already in place, post person, Delivery person etc also people suffering from anxiety and stress it would gently ease them back into a normal work place. you could monitor there progress via the Coronavirus app

As a self employed surveyor working from my home office for over 15years I know how to social distance when working in others homes, I have been using hand santiser for over 10 years as I don't even want someones else cold -let a lone a virus. By the way some form of limited company support for director's dividends would be much apprciated.

Yes they should or hairdressers will go underground and that will be a far larger health risk

I am naturally cautious, but this suggestion does seem to have merit.

As a self employed person who works alone and so worried about my business I had already provided risk assessments and protocols to my clients for both them and me to adhere to prior to the lockdown.
I agree wholeheartedly that there are safe ways for many small business & sole traders to return to work, however as I work outdoors in order for me to feel that it is safe to return to work we need to see the plan of managing all people’s behaviours outdoors. for me when I go out for my daily exercise and for my essential shopping “non social distancing” individuals are becoming higher in numbers each week, (my personal experience), many people do social distancing but I’m concerned about those who don’t and put all of us at risk.
Therefore I would like to see how this will be managed as a plan as we begin to have more relaxation of the lockdown and more people returning to work as safely as we all possibly can.

Self-employed people who cannot work from home are already allowed to work (for example see quotation below from guidance documentation relating to painters and decorators). Unfortunately Nicola Sturgeon frequently says things that appear to contradict the guidance documentation that her team has issued.

"Work carried out in people’s homes, for example by tradespeople carrying out repairs and maintenance, can continue, provided that the tradesperson is well and is not showing coronavirus symptoms and neither they nor any of their household are self-isolating. Again, it will be important to ensure that a 2 metre distance from any household occupants is maintained for everyone’s safety."
