Allow water sports in a controlled club environment eg rowing and kayaking

Allow reopening of rowing and kayaking clubs linked to policies on numbers at any one time, crew sizes, equipment and premises use. Travel time of up to one hour to be allowed for this given the dispersed nature of the sport and access to waterways.

Exercise taken in the open air is beneficial and seems low risk. Kayaks and rowing boats have small crews who tend to be the same group going out regularly. Personal equipment (gloves, lifejackets) can be kept personal and cleaned regularly. If face coverings are used I would think the infection risk would be very small indeed. In ten years of coastal rowing our club has never needed rescuing, so the risk of emergency callouts is very low. (Never say never).

Our rowing does not need changing rooms or any other indoors time in public spaces.

    Club based sea kayaking
Generally, paddlers own their own equipment, travel to a launch location singly or with their partners (same household) and, by the nature of the sport, will be forced to maintain a safe distance from each other.
With experienced club members in the group and a sensible choice of location based on tidal flows and weather forecasts, we would be extremely unlikely to need external assistance.
The benefits in terms of physical exercise and wellness are on par with running and cycling but with a much lower risk of injury and a greatly reduced risk of coming into close contact with other people taking their exercise.
