Allowing face-face therapy

Hello there. I work as a counsellor and psychotherapist in Edinburgh. I have been continuing to support clients via phone. I have been struck by the impact lockdown has had on my clients. Week by week, their mental health is getting worse and worse. Although I am in contact with clients by phone, it is impossible for it to be as therapeutic as it would be face to face. I would invite Nicola to allow people who need therapy to resume face to face but adhering to the 2 meter distance with hand washing on arrival. Many clients can easily and safely get to where they have therapy. What is evident, is the need more than ever to feel connected. I worry about clients who live on their own, with poor mental health unable to process how they are face to face. Warm wishes. Rachel Gray

Why the contribution is important

To support the mental wellbeing of vulnerable people who prior to Covid-19 were already struggling with existing difficulties.

I work in the same field. Are you able to use video calls? I don’t think face to face will be possible in the NHS for months unless people are willing to wear masks. We are using telephone and attend anywhere.
In private practice liability insurance might be an issue.

I do Zoom therapy now but it's not at all the same. I'm also very distracted being at home doing it and it's harder to find anything meaningful to talk about.
