Amalgamate duplicate suggestions

I ahev noted so far at least half a dozen suggestions relating to golf. All that I have looked at are locked. It would be far more sensible to amalgamate all the golf suggestions into a single topic, rather than having umpteen topics, all locked except one and no way to find out which is the active topic.

Why the contribution is important

Because it is sensible.

Yes, there are a lot of the same things over and over.

There's a lot more than golf in the duplicates. Some good, some as bad as you would expect in the tabloid online media. Some have clearly not read the report from the Scottish Government before writing.
Particularly like the reason of the contribution "because its sensible".

Quite, there is a search box on the page too, all people have to do is search to find if their idea has been raised previously. There are many duplicates, golf, wild camping, holiday homes, motor homes, antibody tests etc. Just search it people!

This is the same arguement as "collate responses" further down the list and highlights the issue!

I agree, there is too many duplicate ideas, reopening golf courses is one such example. These duplicates should be merged, to get a better measure of the collective level of support for what is in fact a single idea.
Moving forward it would be better to implement some form of idea validation to prevent or at least reduce duplicate ideas. Adding paging to the comments associated with an idea would be beneficial, along with the option to display the most recent comment, first. Paging would also prevent length scrolling, to access the field to enter a new comment.

    Absolutely!

(And not coincidentally, all the excessive duplicates seem to come from a vocal minority with a very definite axe to grind.)

This would be more useful if you could also vote up/down on each comment. When the threads are amalgamated by topic there can be conflicting suggestions.

Also move the 'add comment' box or a button to the top of the list of comments. Scrolling through 400 plus comments to find the comment box on a phone ( which i suspect most are using) is frustrating

Moderators have a process to close duplicate suggestions before they go live.

It is however important to recognise the different nuances of separate suggestions and avoid excessive grouping of ideas.

The "Idea topics" associated with each suggestion will no doubt be used for further grouping and consolidation of data but it is important not to lose sight of the rich range of contributions.
