Can small businesses open first?

Would be good to allow small local businesses such as cafes and shops open a few weeks before bigger ones. Gives them a chance to recover. They don’t have the reserves of Costa or McDonalds, for example.

Why the contribution is important

Small retail outlets should be encouraged to thrive. We’re a small country and might benefit from a small business economy. Not to say that small and big companies can’t co-exist, but if we’re to build a fairer society this a good place to start, I think.

Well said. However as a very large number of these are in our remoter 'tourist areas' this prioritised re -opening should go hand-in-hand with a carefully managed safety-first approach to a swift reopening of these holiday areas. There is probably much more likelihood of outdoor seating in our more remoter holiday areas too, thus making it easier and safer to do.

You can't discriminate on this basis. There are many bigger businesses that are similarly fragile and under threat.
