car free days

Graphs are showing how much the level of pollution has fallen and wildlife is more visible. I think the public at this time would broadly support a scheme whereby no private cars on public roads at least 1 day per week. This initiative could also encourage people to exercise more e.g. walk to work, walk to bus/train. There could be a reduced fare for that days travel. Possible weekend would be best.

Why the contribution is important

Think it benefits people and the planet

I think this is a great idea and I would fully support it. I think government needs to be bolder with climate change decisions.

No, by all means you have as many car free days as you wish, don't ask me to join in.

What about those who have to take tools to work that they can’t carry? What about Carers and nurses on home visits. What about doctors and nurses who need to get to get to different patients at different locations . What about those with anxiety who can’t go on public transport or those with sensory issues? What about those who work in sites not accessible by public transport. What about people who return home or leave for work before public transport starts? What about the safety of woman standing at bus stops etc in dark nights .

    This idea is completely impractical.

This is not practical for people who work shifts when public transport is not available.

Continuing to allow more home working would be a potential solution to reduce journeys, it has worked well for many during lockdown.

and what about people with a physical disability? how do they get about? Do you also ban buses and deliveries and taxis? Or just private car owners?

A variation of 'elective car free days' for people who work varying days and shifts. If the public transport system was re nationalised, we may also get a service that ran when we needed it.

Not a practical idea, no way of managing this.

Beyond stupid. Never let a crisis get in the way of your messed up anti-car ideology.

we need to burn fuel to help out Boris

This is completely impractical if you live in a rural area and there isn’t a bus stop nearby. Much more needs to be done with public transport if this idea is taken up.

    Completely impracticable
    Can’t get public transport

Not practical at all but it would be good if after this more companies allowed workers to work from home - having seen now how it can work! But would be up for investment in better safer cycle ways - separated away from roads. I have been using bike during this lockdown and am horrified by the state of some of the cycle lanes & the edges of the roads where cyclists are meant to be! Lots more bikes have been sold during this lockdown so if cycling were safer then if people are able to cycle they would be more likely to leave their car! But a non-car day makes no practical sense!
