Carers

Make sure carers who visit elderly/ill patients actually wear masks and gloves.

Why the contribution is important

My mother in law is on her own in Edinburgh and is reliant on myself in England and a friend who drops things off once a week. We are taking great care to ensure she doesn’t go shopping. Had great difficulty ordering online which was impossible with any supermarket. She only got her letter last week which was pointless as she can’t use a computer to order anything. We go to this great effort to protect her to discover the carers who come 3 times a day don’t always wear masks or gloves!!!

Careers go from house to house and are high risk of transmitting virus to vulnerable people

This is appalling. My husband had Carers coming in at the beginning of the outbreak but we chose to stop them. Almost all wore gloves and masks but sometimes removed them before leaving or didn’t put them on until after they’d come into the house. Most were very careful but not all. It depends on them being properly trained in the use of PPE.

I think carers would love to wear masks etc. if they could get hold of them !

My neighbour is a carer who visits vulnerable and sick patients in their own home. The number of visitors she has, together with her failure to maintain social distance, is creating huge potential problems for the very people she is employed to take care of. This cannot be right.

This does seem to be a problem. The Carers who visit my father have only in the last week had the appropriate protective equipment. I wonder if Lauriann could place the order for her mother?
