Carry out road repairs while traffic is reduced

It is apparent from the number of areas marked up in our local area that the Council was planning a programme of road repairs and patching before the lock down. This has all come to a stop. Provided a safe method of working is established, the repairs should be carried out while the traffic levels are at their reduced levels.

Why the contribution is important

With less traffic, it would be a safer work space for the workforce
It would cause less inconvenience to the travelling public

    Excellent suggestion!

This seems at first sight a sensible suggestion , especially if roadworkers can social distance during operations. However, I think the significant increase in cycling seen during this time , because of the quieter road network should be acted on for what it is ….a clear statement that there are too many cars on the roads ( under non lockdown conditions) , for cycling to be seen as a safe and desirable means of travel for many. So significantly more investment in improved cycling infrastructure , cycle lanes etc is an absolute must. This is an sign that it would work ...people want it... they need the government to act more strongly on investing in it.

Excellent idea. Improved road surface will also make roads safer for cyclists who frequently swerve to avoid potholes.
