Childcare and unemployment
Early considerations should be given to safe childcare. Be this family, childminders with limited numbers, safe nurseries etc. If schools do not return some thought will need to be given to primary school pupils who do not normally require childcare.
Why the contribution is important
I do not want to personalise this, but in the case I am aware of (a care worker and a non essential furloughed partner) and I am sure in many other cases, the employee, although not an “essential “ worker is essential for that households livelihood. If that person cannot return to work because of childcare, then there is a very real possibility this person will lose their job. I do not need to detail the on going consequences, including loss of home, a drain on government resources and the mental strain on families.
