Agree it’s a great opportunity to do this while roads are quieter . Workers would need adequate protection from litter hazards and traffic but making Scotland litter free would be a great objective . As a regular long distance cyclist with uninterrupted close ups of Scotland’s hedgerows and waysides the amount of litter thrown into them is pretty appalling and depressing

Especially our AWPR it's unbelievably heavily littered and the amount picked should be highlighted to the public ...people will not believe it ...Scotland should aim to be 'litter free'

While I agree with the idea, why pick on people that are furloughed?

What about people on Job Seekers or Universal Credit too?

While your at it, what about school kids too?

With so many people out walking through their communities, perhaps the local councils could find a way of making litter pickers available to those would like to do their bit (and encourage their children).

What would need some thought though is what we would do with the bin bag of rubbish we manage to collect on our travels with the reduced bin collections......

Litter is a serious problem and we need to get the recycling centres and rubbish collection working again, as a priority.

Totally agree. Scotland needs to grab this opportunity to clear verges of litter. A centrally organised unit could implement this. Volunteers could be called on to come litter pick for Scotland. This would give folk the opportunity to legitimately get out of the house for a couple of hours. (Two hours is plenty as it is quite tough work and will avoid need for toilet provision lunch breaks).

Totally agree we should use this situation to better the country many people are furloughed when coming out of thisnand industry is back but pubs events are not yet open we could ask for volunteers to disinfect streets and maintain kerb sides.

Totally agree with this idea, but don’t see why it should be people on furlough, as they are essentially still in employment.

Why not get individuals who don’t and won’t work and claiming benefits to do this as part of their right to claim.
This would also possibly free up council street cleaners to be assist with other duties.
