Consider a stricter lockdown

If the only way to beat this without waiting for a vaccine is to get the R number so low that the virus dies out then stricter measures should be considered. If we were really clever and strict about this surely we could get the R number very low? Surely major restrictions for say 4 very very tough weeks would give us a real chance to eradicate this, as opposed to a year of restrictions on and off. I know what I would prefer. Suggestions would be:
- No shops open at all for 2 weeks. The vulnerable would have to be looked after by the government e.g. food deliveries etc. The rest of us would have to use common sense and stock up without panic buying. Or the government provides a basic food package like the baby boxes for 2 weeks.
-Stop people going to work when they can work from home. Some employers are still forcing employees to go to work when they are able to work from home. Including the NHS
-Get adequate PPE into care homes NOW and regularly screen all employees for COVID19. Stop employers forcing employees in when ill by giving them full pay if sick not just SSP.
- Regular police car stops to check why people are travelling.
- I’ve already said it but close all shops, including supermarkets, take aways, DIY shops and even online shops like Amazon. People are bored and will be seeing a supermarket or DIY shopping trip as a way to avoid boredom. (Myself included) but It’s a mixed message having them open.
-Face masks to be worn in all cities/towns above a certain population density and on all public transport.

Really strict measures should only need to be implemented for a few weeks in order to see a major impact on the R number.

Why the contribution is important

To reduce the R number to a rate so low that the virus starts to peter out. Greece has managed it why can’t we?
