Construction

Many construction activities can be undertaken with social distancing so provided you have the appropriate methods of work the operation should be allowed .

Why the contribution is important

Restarting the economy is imperative as it generates employment and consequently income tax etc.
With no tax revenue the government and consequently all services including the NHS will cease.
A key consideration is Cost Benefit Analysis and that language is not being used nor seemingly being implemented
The policy of Lockdown is too one dimensional and needs to evolve .It is easy to tell people to stay at home the real intelligence is how you manage people back to work and to living!

Life is also never risk-free and to want to achieve that is essentially ignorant of the fact that we live in a world that is full of uncertainties and danger. More people have died between 1st January and 27th April from either influenza or pneumonia and yet we never lock down the economy just to prevent these deaths. We need to start to understand that life has its risks but we need to get back to normality to have a life worth living.

When asked on Reporting Scotland 05 May why it was safe to open English construction sites but not Scottish ones the First Minister could not muster a sensible reply instead resorted to the usual political waffle. As noted in many other responses on this site, clear statements of fact should be provided wherever possible. The Scottish Government's current position must have been based on some form of risk assessment so this should be published, which would enable the construction industry to then understand why the Scottish guidance is different and to plan ahead.

Outdoor work with appropriate hygiene and social distancing should be allowed. This would help with employment and the economy.
