Construction services

Depending on individual cases constructions could begin to take place.

Why the contribution is important

This is constantly coming up along with the difference between the UK Gov and the Scot Gov's approach. I am a Quantity Surveyor for a medium sized construction company in the Highlands. We have, as a responsible builder, consulted our Health and Safety adviser on how to maintain social distancing and safe working practices and there are some situations where that is extremely difficult if not impossible under the current regulations. Pouring concrete floors, fitting plasterboard, travelling to work, these are some examples where we could be putting our employees at unnecessary risk and could be found negligent.
The TTI, Test, Trace, Isolate program is in my opinion, the marker we need to reach from where we can lift the lockdown for most construction. Listening to Alistair Jack and others calling on us to copy the UK Government because it undermines the Union, is ignorant and reckless.

Lots of construction workers can carry out there work without being in close contact with other people - with good hygiene this could be done safely

Let small building work commence safely!

It is clear that small work building works should be possible to complete safely. The joiners and bricklayers engaged to do our work are keen to get back to work, safely, using distancing and masks and any other measures that are advised. If the property being worked on is empty, that further reduces any transmission risk.

This only applies to smaller construction sites; Lots of construction workers CANNOT carry out there work without being in close contact with other people - Especially on larger sites
