Construction Workers

I believe that all construction workers should be returning to work, alot of companies in scotland are struggling to remain in business there are hundreds of new build properties especially in Eastlothian that cannot be finished off due to this lockdown this is much needed housing especially for families that are stuck overcrowded in inadequate temporary accomodation who have had the promise of a property months ago yet cannot get the keys construction workers are back at work in London following a one way system so why cant Scottish parliament do the same? It's not as if joe public can access these sites anyway and as long as the correct ppe is in place I cant see what the problem is

Why the contribution is important

It's important to keep the Scottish economy flowing it's important to be seen as helping Scottish construction companies thrive and it's important to get social housing finished , if Nicola Sturgeon keeps putting this off god knows how many construction companies are going to go under rapidly there is absolutely no excuse for them not to go back to work

I work in the construction industry. I am an employer. I have a joinery manufacturing workshop aswell as on site construction works. How to keep the social distancing in a workshop environment is going to be very difficult and require a lot of thought and change of processes. I do not feel that I could currently expect my employees to return to work, the risk to themselves, the risk to their family and the risk to others at place of work is still far too high. Large sites seem to think they can do all this safely. But I am very sceptical that at lot of employers will be putting their own interests first, far ahead of the safety of their employees and family's.

I agree: too much emphasis has been on totally eliminating the virus and reducing deaths due to Covid-19 as much as possible. But this has been to the detriment of peoples' livelihoods and general quality of life. Furthermore, having a functioning economy will be very important for being able to fund a quality health service and delaying the opening of industry will in the long term reduce the tax take meaning we have less to spend on important healthcare services like chemotherapy.

Construction is an already well regulated industry with a key focus on health and safety with risk assessments an essential part of every task.

Get them back to work. If they can be trusted operating heavy machinery then they can be trusted to wash their hands and stay apart.

Construction is NOT a well regulated industry with a key focus on health and safety - many large contractors make their own decisions and can have hundreds of workers in one canteen or working over the top of one another
