Don't restart sailing

I am firmly with the Poster who suggested just getting on with the Lockdown and protecting the NHS. If I don't get on the boat this year so be it - hopefully I will live to sail again next year.
I cannot think of a more selfish way of behaving than to drive up from where we live -(Nr Fleetwood) just so that I can have a bit of pleasure, sailing the boat. What if I stop for a pee at Tebay, Southwaite or one of the M74 Services and pick up the virus ? What if I'm carrying the virus and it bursts out whilst I'm in Ardfern and I've just been in the facilities, I've just collected the keys, I handled the guardrail on the way to the pontoon and somehow - I have infected someone. Unwittingly and unknowingly they infect someone else and before long I am the plague starter?
No thanks. I'll sit this one out.
And so should all the other stupid, selfish, short sighted sods who have supported the idea of getting sailing again.

Its an old dog for a long race.

Why the contribution is important

My idea is important because there is a long list of social priorities to be addressed before we should think about sailing.
Sailing is a minority sport, still fairly privileged, still quite expensive and certainly not going to benefit the majority if it is allowed to be restarted

Agreed - we had someone row ashore from a yacht on Jura this week and it was not appreciated. Controlled movement via ports / ferries / planes is one thing, sailing, kayaking etc is another.

This is based on what if. Get real,do a risk assessment. Its not rocket science.

This is plainly ridiculous. My boat is literally outside the window - I live by the harbour. Your comments have absolutely nothing to do with sailing but are all about driving long distances. I’d also like to point out that it’s a Scottish Government consultation so the views of those who reside outside Scotland should not be included.

    I DISAGREE with this proposal.

Outdoor sports like sailing, hill walking, golf etc can be carried out solo or in very small groups where the risk is zero.

Nobody is suggesting you all go the the club house for a pint afterwards, that would be plain stupid and for now the bars and club houses should remain shut.

People are getting frustrated locked up at home and are already starting to flout the rules. Give the people a little freedom to enjoy some responsible risk free outdoor leisure activity and most of that frustration will disappear and the people will have a lot more respect for the much more important things that remain restricted for good reason.

Driving long distances that require "pit stops" is clearly to be avoided. The author of the post doesn't reflect the risk presented by those who are fortunate to be able to travel to boats without breaching the 2m social distancing rule. His post title should read "don't restart driving from Fleetwood to Ardfern".

My boat is only 30mins drive from home. I won't be making any pit stops. I'm more socially distanced when sailing than when shopping cheek by jowl in my local Tesco where absolutely no-one seems to be bothered about 2m.

Madness not to allow sailing with some easy to understand caveats about travelling distance etc.

Oh and by the way, I am anything but privileged or wealthy (my boat is a tiny, cheap little day boat). And to make the statement about this activity being disallowed as it's only benefiting a few is ridiculous. That argument can be applied to countless other pastimes. Why does something have to benefit the majority for it to be allowed??? Surely the only criteria is whether it poses a significant increase in Covid transmission or not?

I agree with this proposal only if it relates to travelling long distances to your boat .

A car journey is no different to the super market , for me and many others sailing is good mentally , and physically and boats need constant maintenance ,
Sailing needs to be allowed to allow those to enjoy the outdoors in isolation

You don’t need to stop at harbour when out sailing most sailors won’t do that.
