Early start to summer holidays and thus early return in next academic year

Rather than try to push getting kids back before the summer when infection rate is still at high levels, why don’t schools cease for summer early, perhaps mid June and start academic year at the end of July for 20/21. This would allow additional time for infection rates to reduce before schools return. Some dates could also be organised before holidays for children commencing school next year to have opportunity to go and visit the school with pupils going into P6/7 next year going in at the same time to meet and support them as buddy’s, this could be done in smaller groups rather than all at the one time. Something similar could also be done within secondary schools.
Within holiday period supports would still be required in relation to childcare for working parents and for vulnerable children.

Why the contribution is important

To return children to school in a safe and staggered system, whilst also easing anxieties of the children and their parents who are transitioning within their education.
