End the lock down now

End the lockdown now and trust people to do the right thing instead of treating us all like children in a nanny state! Stay calm and be like Sweden and other countries taking a sensible approach I do not see any detrimental impact in their figures compared to the uk. Even the World Health Organisation makes NO reference in its Covid 19 strategic preparedness and response plan guidance to countries, to lockdowns and further states that the risk assessment adopted by countries also needs to include mitigation for broader economic and social impacts as well health!

What had been done in Scotland to assess this social and economic impact before impoverishing millions of people through unemployment and Increased stress and negative health issues through this lockdown before deciding to follow the rest off the cliff in March?

Why the contribution is important

Compare the UK to New Zealand, both are Island Nations, we haven't been strict enough,

I suggest you watch what happens in the USA in the coming months as a warning to what an irresponsible approach ending the lockdown would be.

Let people see their family. Have trust in the sensible. Not everyone wants to go back to pubs, restaurants etc. Trust people will be careful but realise people will start to crack and do it anyway if you dont.
It's like a work place, give respect and you get respect. Micro manage and people go awol

I own a shop on an island in the inner hebrides. I, like many businesses here, rely on summer/seasonal trade to keep our familys fed over the winter. Right now i NEED to bring in money or i will make nothing in the winter and will not afford my rent or any bills, let alone feed my wife and children. What money i make from now till october is what i live on in the winter and you have cut me off completely. We need to open up the economy now. Peoples health will deteriorate severely if this carries on any longer, we cannot be locked up like prisoners. This is complete insanity and has been taken too far.
Open up the economy and let me feed my family.

The government tried allowing the public to use their common sense but very few showed any common sense. In countries like Sweden, their culture is very different to ours. They can make choices and take social responsibility, our lot don't.
If the lock down was simply lifted, everyone would be in the shops, using public transport and working in confined areas.

A small easing of lockdown in Spain has resulted in an increase in deaths already and more strict lockdown measures reintroducted. We don't want to lose the benefits that these hard weeks have brought.

Ending the lockdown now is a bad idea, it would be 6 weeks wasted as the death rate would certainly spike.

Sweden has lower infection rates & death rates than us.

    Similar country & geography

Different policies, we need to learn from them

Totally disagree; phased exit a must for reasons stated by Govt

Absolutely. This virus isn't going away, so if we keep the lockdown until we fully exterminate the virus, we will be here until 2021. The lockdown was originally introduced to flatten the curve and save the NHS - both objectives have now been fulfilled. As a society, we have to be able to manage risk responsibly, like adults, and understand that a life worth living doesn't happen behind closed doors and away from society. We need to open this country as soon as possible, we must stay active and engaged, and we must not succumb to the apathy and passivity of atomised, locked-down existence!

Ending lockdown now would undo the good done by the Scottish Government and the people of Scotland to reduce spread of the virus and reduce strain on the NHS. Before lockdown people weren't being sensible and taking the virus and risks seriously regarding social distancing etc that's why lockdown had to be introduced. People need to be patient, lockdown won't last forever but could be for longer if measures are eased too soon.

Please stop using Sweden as a marker, they have a different set of cultural norms and recently the highest weekly mortality rate in over a century.
It is for selfish reason people want the restriction to be lifted rather than to protect society/communities they live in. If we lift restriction to soon the only winners are crematoriums & funeral parlours, the loser's will maybe your family, friends, work colleagues and neighbours. And is that a positive way forward.

The cure cannot be worse than the illness, the economy is in tatters, and the majority of deaths are in the elderly age group so shield the vulnerable and put things in place to get the economy back to work

If we don't ease the lockdown soon, the biggest threat facing the majority of people will not be a spike in infection rates but will be the prospect of no job, dwindling savings, the threat of losing their homes and worries about where their next meal is coming from. It will be no good relying on the state as that will be bankrupt also!

Agreed. The draconian illiberal lockdown policy copied from an oppressive communist government will be seen in the future as a huge disaster similar to Blair's Dodgy Dossier on Iraq's WMD
