Euthanasia

Due to the large death rate in care homes, I firmly believe the time is right to engage in dialogue regarding the right to introduce living wills

Why the contribution is important

I have had personal experience of family and dementia. I do not believe anyone would wish to live in a state like that. Also it costs the individual and tax payer a huge amount of money. I do not believe there is any benefit to be gained by keeping someone alive just by feeding and caring for them without any quality of life.

How old are you, Katey? As I grow older I become nervous when Euthanasia is advocated.

I am horrified to read katey’s comments. Whilst I agree with the principle of living wills, no-one has a right to decide on the quality of life for other individuals. Having supported many people and their families in living with dementia, some have a good quality of life, even in the later advanced stages of the disease, and families can gain strength and comfort with affected loved ones at that time. As for costing the taxpayer, remember that many people living with dementia will have paid a lifetime’s taxes so are fully entitled to receive care to support them in living their lives to the fullest and as best they can.

    I agree with Dr T.

No one can decide that another person’s quality of life is not worth living. Dr T I completely agree with you

I may have given a misleading heading. I am in favour of a living will and I am over 65. I believe the purpose of this exercise is to promote constructive discussion .
