Expanding Outdoor excercise "rules"

Currently exercise has been restricted to walking, running and cycling. I believe that this should be expanded to any "exercise" which can be undertaken whilst maintaining social distancing. I also believe that individuals should be able to travel to take part in their exercise within a limited range (perhaps within 30 miles of their home). In particular I believe that sports such as dinghy sailing, golf, surfing, fishing, outdoor swimming should be allowed although the social side of these should be very restricted at this time (clubhouse bars etc. should remain closed).

Why the contribution is important

If this sort of activity is not formally permitted I fear that the population will start to ignore the "rules" - by allowing activities such as those above will show that the Scottish Government is taking a sensible risk based attitude.

I fully agree. this sort of outdoor excercise / small scale sports should be allowed, together with a car journey to get to them. They pose no more harm or risk than the daily walk we are allowed to take, arguably less harm as we can travel to ensure we are away from other people.

I agree. The roads are full of cyclists, many of them in groups. Yet I am not allowed to go surfing, where I would be much further away from other people than cyclists are. Makes no sense

I agree small scale sports not done in groups should not be an issue now. I believe it was because of potential accidents that they were restricted but this is not an issue.

    Agree

I agree. However, what doesn't seem to be understood is that the the temporary law doesn't forbid any of the activities mentioned in the comments above, provided they don't include non-household members, which of course is true of walking etc. as well. We mustn't make the mistake of blurring the distinction between advice or exhortation (e.g. "try to give up smoking) and the law (e.g. "smoking in restaurants is illegal), or of forgetting that the law isn't made by Prime or First Ministerial diktat.

The Health Protection (Coronavirus) (Restrictions) (Scotland) Regulations 2020 says that exercise is allowable with no restriction stated on duration, type, location or frequency.
