As lockdown eases, many businesses will be reopening but will not function in the same way as they once did. They will need to run at a lower staff capacity in order to maintain social distancing measures and ensure the safety of customers and employees. Once furlough ends, staff may have to take a reduction in hours/wages or be laid off/made redundant. Furlough should be extended and made into a "top up" for those working reduced hours.
Why the contribution is important
At the moment, people on furlough are able to manage financially. If this ends and staff go back to work on reduced hours then many will unable to make ends meet. A top up scheme would allow people to get back to work without the stress of worrying about money.
