Family Groups will be the first step

Increasing safe contact with family groups will go some way to allowing schools to wait until August before fully going back. During summer holidays, family normally rely on one another for childcare. If this is allowed to happen, it is clear that family will take the greatest care over ensuring risk against infection is minimised. This will in itself, create small tests of change that are not huge (such as opening schools for a few weeks before the summer thus possibly spreading the virus far and wide). These small steps would offer some normality to people, whilst containing the virus in as tight a circle as possible. It’s up to us as under 70 yr old grandparents, aunts, uncles, very close friends to keep the virus at bay whilst looking after our young ones, and we would. Guidance could be issued to help with this.

Why the contribution is important

We need to move forward without driving up the R number. This would be the best way of looking after our school aged children, in a safe and normal way, which would give schools, and us, time to get our heads around what will be one of the most difficult moves in this crisis.

Whilst I agree in principle, we rely on a network of friends for childcare and support as we have no family to support us. I would hope that any such idea would apply common sense and allow our small network to re-engage.

    Unfair and discriminatory.

I do not think it is reasonable to suggest family first. Many people do not have family locally or would rather choose to see friends. Fine to limit numbers of people you can see and suggest meeting outdoors to star5 with but don’t stipulate that it has to be family.
