Fishing

I enjoy fishing and more especially on remote lochs. I use a boat on loch Earn and to access the loch can do so without any contact with anyone else. This is the case for the vast majority of my fellow fishermen. Social distancing is by far easier any safer than going to the shops or actually going for a walk in and around my home as I see a lot more people etc. The government should really be considering such safe pastimes and ease restrictions in these areas such as golf and long walks in the remote countryside away from other people. Loch Earn has been totally closed for the past 8 weeks and under the current advice and precautions I truly believe that it’s unnecessary as anglers are very responsible and often enjoy the solitude

Why the contribution is important

It’s extremely important for mental health and well-being. Pastimes such as fishing relieve a person from the stresses and strains of everyday normal life never mind trying to cope with lockdown and the grim reality of this pandemic. The economy also benefits from the revenue and people employed in the sector which is multi-million pound industry

Completely agree, people are outdoors, isolated, getting vital sunshine and not risking anyone, should be allowed.

    I agree with this post
2 person boat fishing would be difficult to justify other than with another family member
Bank fishing would be much easier
The loch I fish is 6 miles from my house so it wouldn’t involve long distance travel in my car

Allowing people to fish from the bank or from a pier keeping social distancing will help to reduce the mental strain of lockdown. As there would be significantly more available space to practice social distancing fishing would be safer than visiting a shop or supermarket and can be done by a single person. Obviously there would need to be some travel restrictions to prevent people travelling too far, possibly about 30 miles would allow people to get to a fishing venue.

Agree entirely. Angling and golf are two of the easiest sports at which to maintain social distancing.

We are entering early summer and travelling say 20 miles to free fishing for mackerel has got to be the most relaxing day and free food for our families
