Fishing should be allowed to re-start immediately.

If there was ever a 'sport / hobby' which was suited to social distancing then it has to be fishing. Fishing on rivers and / or fisheries should be allowed to re-start immediately. By it's very nature fishing is probably the easiest sport to maintain social distancing. With regard to fisheries, simple, only one 'customer' in the lodge / shop at any one time. There is absolutely no reason not to re-start fishing.

Why the contribution is important

Fishing is excellent for mental health, and in the current lockdown situation it would be an excellent way to help anglers overcome the stress and fears which exist around this current crisis.

Absolutely, one of the easiest past times to carry out while social distancing. And will help an already struggling rural business community.

By nature of this pastime, by it suits itself to the current imposed restrictions, most anglers are more than 6ft apart from each other, Im not suggesting that competitions of large groups are allowed or indeed fishing from a boat, Should be allowed, as those would clearly break the current regulations

What I am talking about is allowing fisherman to go out and enjoy a rather pleasurable pastime and be sensible too, it is after all a very relaxing sport, it gets us out in the fresh air , it’s good for the mind , body and soul

It is after all the one of the most popular sports in UK, if not the most popular

I agree with allowing fishing to return as this is in the majority of cases a sole sport therefore risk of transmission is low. As with a lot of outdoor activities it is only a concern regarding travelling to these areas but the risk would seem to be low

With restrictions on travel distance this could be okay.

As long as someone can drive to and from river in the same day let’s do it

Yes with sensible precautions. No gathering in fishing huts.

I’ve mentioned this on a previous comment. As an angler I totally agree that it is probably at the very top of suitable pass times for self isolation, and therefore should be considered as one of the first to b3 relaxed - slightly! If you live locally and can access the river with limited travel, on your own and not use huts etc then I think it is totally acceptable. My worry is regarding the time-share owners who, rightly or otherwise, make their annual trips to the Scottish rivers, a big free-for-all holiday, renting houses, lodges or staying in hotels, with friends from all areas of uk, certainly not from the one household! They employ locals to cook clean drive and ghillie and this is where we have to draw a very firm permanent marker line - it cannot be allowed for the foreseeable future, to protect our small, local communities - just to let them have a jolly holiday. I’m sure there are plenty local fishers who are willing to ‘rent’ a day on many of our top rivers, or perhaps, just for this one very Different season let them have a few casts - catch and return is the norm anyway!
