Follow Australia and New Zealand

Have mandatory 2 week quarantine coming into country. Be tougher on lockdown and follow Australia and New Zealand they seem to be getting things right. Would certainly feel safer living there right now than here! Incredulous that people can just come here and not be quarantined whilst we are all having to stay at home. They are even quarantining their residents when moving from different areas!

Why the contribution is important

Need to get a proper grip of this situation and be able to at least feel safe in my own country! And set an example of strong leadership.

I agree with the the idea of new measures stricter quarantine control for those returning to , or entering , the country either through airports, Eurostar or Chanel ports, It seems possible that the vast numbers of people returning from abroad over two months ago, who were not subject to enforced quarantine, may have helped spread the virus.

This seems to me to be the most important issue. At the time of writing, New Zealand appears to be virus free, Australia is almost there, and Vietnam has not had a single death from this virus. In the UK deaths are presently being recorded at over 1,000 every 48 hours and yet we are told that the UK government is shortly to announce the easing of restrictions. This suggests either a callous indifference or an admission that our strategy has not worked and we may as well get back to work and spend money as we cannot afford to carry on like this. So what did those three countries do that we did not? They closed their borders and imposed strict self-isolation regimes on returning nationals. The latest figure that I've seen is that we presently have over 100,000 people arriving into the UK each week. Aggregate the figures since the start of the crisis and you get to easily over a million, and that's people arriving by air and so not bothering with social distancing and who do not receive even a basic health screening on arrival.
