Future sourcing of PPE and other essential supplies reviewed post-COVID19
This virus has shown us that having a supply chain that we can fully depend on, especially in times like these (which, although they may be unprecedented just now, could become a more common occurance) is essential.
Why the contribution is important
Although the production of single-use, or other items of PPE, or other consumables for the NHS and social care, may be cheaper from other countries, in the event of a global demand such as this, or even increased demand in the country of origin alone, if we don't have facilities up and running already to supply us here in Scotland, the price is irrelevant.
The way to ensure the Scotland-only supply chain's financial viability, will be to mandate all NHS and other Health and Social Care organisations operating in Scotland to source certain items solely from it. It should also be not-for-profit.
The facilities would need to be Scotland-only because of our separate Health and Social Care system from the rest of the UK.
