Garden refuse recycling

Local council recycling centres could be open for garden refuse recycling, at least.

Why the contribution is important

Never have so many lawns been cut so often over such a short period of time.

I completely agree. In a 'normal' year I only get my brown bin emptied about 5 or 6 times (a shame it costs £25 a year!). So many people have been gardening but - with no collections - there have been frequent garden bonfires in my area, plus an increase in fly-tipping. When going to the Recycling Centres, you generally go in your own car, you stay away from everyone, and then you leave! If the members of staff (usually only half a dozen or so at the Recycling Centre) are happy with the physical distancing measure, I really do not see why they cannot be reopened as soon as possible.

Our local recycling centre Only has 1 member of staff who is often in the digger they use to move rubbish into large skips so there is very little chance of interaction but it is down a narrow, 1 way lane and any queues would be outside houses, it would be better if they placed a refuse lorry at the entrance, people could drive up, leave black bags, get back in the car, driver could then put bags into lorry and squash , repeat with next person

Like the idea of more garden recycling - but wouldn't it be better if this was done onsite (or nearby) where possible? Improved access (every day), no fees, keeps nutrients (and pests/ pathogens) local, reduced transport costs and emissions. Have fewer kerbside collections for only that material that can't be easily composted.
