Getting out of lockdown

It is imperative (notwithstanding any form of politics) that the United Kingdom comes out of lockdown unified in the plans. Apart from the Irish Sea there are no physical borders in the UK, so any notion of doing it 'alone' just worries and confuses the population.

Why the contribution is important

We have to treat this as a national problem, not a nation problem!

I agree. The solution needs to be UK wide and the same.
Scotland does not need to exersise her right to be unilateral in this. Work with Boris. We, in Scotland, need the same assurances that you are working together rather than wishy washy policy making which restricts us more.

I disagree that we take a unified approach to coming out of lockdown. I live in the North East of Scotland and the virus is expected to peak here in 2 weeks time. This means we are a good few weeks behind the south of England and even other parts of Scotland. We need measures in place that account for geographic and demographic differences in the UK.

I agree. We should all come out of lockdown at the same rate and not try to politicise this by trying to be different from England. The Welsh Government have already stated that they think that all our governments should agree on the way out and the time limits to do this.

I agree with a unified approach. What happens if you have family groups living in both scotland and England. Say England lifts restrictions first and allow households to visit. That means they can visit family in England but they cant come to Scotland to visit and the family from Scotland cant travel to England.

If the evidence about the effects of the pandemic in the four nations of the UK are in alignment, then by and large, we should come out together. But there are examples where decisions may be different - the school year in Scotland, for example, does not coincide with England. It could be argued that decisions about schools should be made by local authorities informed by government. Given the current wildly differing infection rates in Inverclyde and Western Isles, I would suggest that schools in these areas should be opening on very different dates.

Show unity. Stop trying to go it alone. Let us have a UK wide approach to this please.
