Gyms Should Open

That the people like Adults and trust them to keep to the rules. Limit numbers (if required) and disinfect machines and equipment after each use. It is very easy to keep a safe distance from other users in most gyms and have people go home to shower.

Why the contribution is important

People that live in Cities and especially those in flats with no access to open air recreational facilities are currently suffering both physically and mentally. Gym goers are a group of the most regimented and hygenic people on the planet and a large percentage of these people are genetically unable to do activities such as running and do not have access to equipment such as bicycles and therefore require gyms and the equipment there to undertake low impact exercise that stimulates their cardiovascular system to the degree required. Strength training has also been scientifically proven to boost the immune system. Not only that, a regular workout routine is key in the prevention of heart disease. Purvi Parikh of the NYU Langone Health and The Allergy & Asthma Network stated that "Regular Exercise has been shown to flush bacteria out of the lungs and reduce respiratory infection. It is also PROVEN that regular exercise boosts your mood and self confidence.. Factors that, at a time like this, are surely more important than ever.

Gyms can also contribute to the spread of disease greatly! Even with improved hygienic measures this is still a big possibility with the number of people using the same equipment in an enclosed space.
People never clean the equipment whenever they use it. This might have improved but I doubt it and complacency will soon set in ! Outdoors can provide low impact exercise such as walking !

Classes may be more difficult to manage until vaccination but gym use can be organised to allow opening, social distancing and improve mental and physical wellbeing. We have been very fortunate that lockdown was so far during such an amazing weather spell, but people are less likely to go out and exercise in poor weather. Hygiene can be maintained and numbers at any one time restricted to make safe for users and staff

Please concentrate on opening up more options for exercise in the open air not indoors where there is much less risk of covid19 transmission.
