Hairdresser

Back to work

Why the contribution is important

Salons by appointment only and that way client and staff safety PPE required for staff masks for client minimal staff to start, then at least it’s a start this has to be done in this environment

Hairdressing while impacting on those working in the industry is NOT essential, so should be the last thing to reopen

hairdressing not essential at this time

Hairdressers should be a priority, at least for the clients who cannot wash their own hair, or can only wash it with great difficulty.

Prioritising hair washing services might be something to consider.

Hairdressing is essential for many people with men and women. Hairdressors/barbers wear droplet PPE and customer does the same to reduce risk of transmission. Cleaning of all surfaces between customers. I work in operating theatres, so understand the risks and how to mitigate them

Be good to have hairdressers open - not critical right away

Hairdressers to open as essential service in support of health and wellbeing.
Agree with comment posted above at 16.15.

Hairdressing is in no way essential.

Hairdressers should be allowed to open but number of staff and clients limited. Face masks to be worn by both the staff and clients and salons cleaned thought after each client. Hand sanitiser provided. It would benefit people’s mental health.
My hairdresser has intro the above just before lockdown and she is small salon. Hairdressers are one of the cleanest places.

Agree hairdressers are not essential, however could they be open and available for the keyworkers still dealing with the public on a daily basis.

Hairdressers opening is ABSOLUTE nonsense they are closer to the public even more than in a pub, My wife has had her own salon for over 35 years and I am terrified if she is forced to open up you can provide all the PPE and hygiene you like but opening salons is far to dangerous both for the customer and all the staff and kids well some will just run about no matter what the parent says or does. Absolutely disgraceful if hairdressing is opened up before pubs and restaurants. These people wanting them to open stop being so vain.

Hairdressers should be allowed to open with a system whereby the numbers of staff on duty at one time is limited as well as the clients with the chairs are at least 2 metres apart This could be considered essential to support people’s mental health. You could stagger the days when stylists are in the shop to stop cross working ..bit like the suggestions for office workers working in teams. Face masks to be worn by both the staff and clients and salons cleaned thought after each client. Hand washing by clients on arrival and departure and sanitizer provided.

Hairdressing generally is not an essential service. However it is essential if it's your only source of income. It's one of the businesses in which it's easy to control the flow of customers, as stated by the comment poster.

For the sake of mental wellbeing these should be reopened. Usually some of the cleanest places and could check temperatures before appointment as most were doing before lockdown anyway.

When have you ever seen a hairdresser cut hair with gloves on? It’s not possible and makes it a bigger risk.

Secondly many small businesses need a lot of clientele to make ends meet. To afford the stay open they need lots of clients

More importantly we are asking hairdressers to risk themselves with no consideration of their fears.

It would be madness for them to open until there is very little risk.

My husband is a hairdresser and is terrified for all of the reasons above. Consider the risk not your vanity.

As a student nurse, I've seen the difference a hair cut/style can make to many patients. We should look to Germany and other European countries with how to deal with opening hairdressers asap, with tighter restrictions - and at the businesses discretion.

Hairdressing/barbers/ nail bars, etc should not be reopened soon, they could be high risk of passing on infection also there service is not really a necessary requirement.

I hope to see the reopening of beauty salons and hairdressers early on during the phased removal of lockdown. I think they are vital for people including a massive improvement in mental health and morale and this lockdown has highlighted how undervalued beauticians and hairdressers were. PPE is essential but if someone small businesses would like to open soon they should have the ability to do so and offer the treatments they are comfortable to offer.

I agree that Hairdressers help with mental wellbeing and self esteem, particularly for the older people who look forward to having their hair done and having a natter (sometimes this might be the only contact they have all day with another human being). I think they should open.
