Social distancing in schools is hugely complex. In the primary sector because of the challenges of making young children stay apart, in the secondary sector due to large volumes of teenagers moving from class to class down crowded corridors (plus a million and one other logistical challenges).
Having some pupils in school, some at home, is also very challenging for staff. Teaching classes all day, and trying to teach the other half online would be impossible. It would add hours to the working day.
Given all of these challenges, a lot of work, planning and discussion will need to go in to trying to resume some sort of normal education. I think it would be better to just tell people schools won't go back until, at least, August. It would remove the state of limbo we are living in (somewhat), and allow us to work towards a shared goal.
I also feel much more needs to be said about the health and safety of staff within schools. The focus of government briefings is exclusively on pupils but staff are the ones most at risk in a school.

Why the contribution is important
Creating a little certainty for pupils and teachers in a very uncertain time.
